Course Overview

The HubStudio is thrilled to welcome Greg Apps from Greg Apps Casting for the very first time in a made-just-for-the-hub four week casting and agency Masterclass. For over 50 years Greg has been a mainstay of the production industry. Greg has cast more than 75 feature films including Chopper, Romper Stomper, Mission Impossible II, Knowing, Proof among others. He has launched the careers of actors such as Russell Crowe, Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and Eric Bana. 

“The Greg Apps Casting Masterclass: How To Manage Your Manager” is a comprehensive four-week online course led by industry veteran Greg Apps, aimed at empowering actors with vital skills for effectively navigating their relationship with their agent. Throughout the program, participants engage in weekly live lessons where they receive personalised guidance on leveraging digital tools, refining self-taping techniques, and presenting themselves professionally to casting directors.

The course culminates in the submission of a final scene for detailed critique from Greg, providing actors with invaluable insights to propel their careers forward. By the end of the course, attendees emerge equipped with a deeper understanding of managing their agent relationship, positioning themselves strategically within the competitive acting landscape.

Course Outline
There will be a 90 minute live lesson each week with Greg. You will self tape each week, with feedback weekly. And in the final week you will submit a self tape to Greg and receive private personal tailored feedback about how to move your career forward. This course is the how, when, and what, of dealing with, and speaking to, your agent (who then sells you to the CD) The lessons will be delivered every Wednesday evening (Sydney time). Every week the students are given a short scene or an impro exercise to deliver by the Sunday evening. (Giving GA time to view and make notes). Each lesson consists of 30 minutes information and lesson content, then 30 minutes of GA commenting on the tapes received, and then 30 minutes open Q & A. – 90 minutes in total

In the fourth and final week, they will be asked to prepare a scene of their choosing. To be delivered by the Sunday evening. In the following week, they will receive an audio file of Greg’s personal frank and honest feedback.

  • Social media is not a marketing tool. It’s a communication platform. Here is how to use it.

WEEK THREE
Tips, tricks and hacks for a demo reel that connects.

  • How images communicate your ideal role
  • How to engage with Casting Directors using social media & digital tools
  • How self-tapes feed and inform that relationship.
  • How to get more traction with casting directors by delivering tapes that connect

WEEK FOUR
A Character Identity is your choice. When you choose the right one, you get more auditions.

How To Pay & Instalment Option: The easiest way to pay is by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) using the bank details on the invoice (please quote the invoice number in the transfer information), or by simply clicking the ‘pay online’ link also on the invoice (bank fees apply). About Greg Apps

This year marks 50 years since Greg Apps’ first professional job in the film industry. He has been dealing with agents – at every level of the industry – ever since. Greg has cast more than 75 feature films including Chopper, Romper Stomper, Mission Impossible II, Knowing, Proof among others. He has launched the careers of actors such as Russell Crowe, Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and Eric Bana. As an actor he worked on stage, on radio, on television and film. He appeared in the feature films Sunday Too Far Away, Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith and Mad Dog Morgan – working opposite the late great Denis Hopper. On stage he played Brad in the original Australian production of The Rocky Horror Show.

He was Associate Producer (and Casting Director) on the feature Face to Face. It was awarded Best Film at Santa Barbara, Seattle, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Mexico and Newport Film Festivals. In Australia, it was nominated for both Male and Female acting awards at the prestigious IF awards. But they did not simply nominate one actor and actress, they nominated the entire ensemble. In 1995, Greg was elected to the Board of the Australian Film Institute. He spent seven years with the AFI

In 2004, he was named on the list of the 20 Most Influential People in the Australian Film Industry by IF Magazine.
In 2013, he was elected as the inaugural President of the Casting Guild of Australia, a position he held for three years.
In teaching, Greg has lectured at NIDA, WAAPA, QUT, VCA, Flinders Uni and many other smaller educational institutions. He has developed a unique concept regarding actor selftapes, utilising all of the emerging tools of the digital age. His knowledge of social media, the power of the use of video to deliver a strong message, combined with his comprehensive knowledge of acting, agents, casting and auditioning has helped him develop a unique approach for actors.
