This 4 week course is a chance to learn the fundamental techniques of voiceover. From sight reading, to microphone technique, to taking direction in the booth, we’ll give you all the tools and practice you need to go out and work in the voice over industry, right away.

Not only will you be learning from professionals who are very much active in the industry, Andrew Hearle and Dorje Swallow, you’ll also have plenty of time on the mic to practice what you’re learning, and get constructive feedback. We keep class sizes small, in order to give each student as much time on the mic as possible. The content we’ll cover in this course will give you a kickstart in this lucrative industry, and arm you with the skills to ensure long term survival and success in the voice over industry.

Course Outline

The course is broken down into these main areas of discovery, to best equip you for work in the voice over industry. Here’s what we’ll cover over the 4 weeks:

  • Finding your strengths and discovering your unique voice
  • Studio etiquette: becoming comfortable in the booth and proper microphone technique
  • Taking direction from clients and engineers
  • How to build relationships in the industry and where to begin.
  • Understanding and adapting your reads for different genres, tones and brands
  • A) Radio Commercials
  • B) TV and Cinema Commercials
  • C) TV Promo’s and Cinema trailers
  • D) TV Narration
  • E) Government and Corporate Reads
  • F) Audiobooks and ADR/Lip Sync

We’ll assign the scripts, and you’ll each have time on the mic to practice and receive feedback on your work.

Course Outcomes

This series will equip you with all the necessary techniques to start booking voice over work. A selection of general outcomes are;

  • Become more comfortable on the mic and in the booth
  • Greater vocal awareness and control when it comes to microphone techniqueB) TV and Cinema Commercials
  • Flexibility in taking direction and adapting to different styles and reads
  • Industry awareness and advice on making connections and getting started
  • Confidence in your unique voice and understanding what you have to offer a script.

About Dorje Swallow

Professional Voice Over Artist (RMK Voices)

Dorje is a multi award winning Voice Over Artist, and is currently the voice of SBS (12 years) and Universal Channel (5 years).  He has won numerous Promaxx and Siren Awards, and in television has been the voice of Showcase (5 years), UKTV (7 years), Movie Network (2), World Movies (7) and Boomerang (2).  He’s also been the International Voice of Castrol, as well as the Australian Voice Over Artist for American Express, Commbank, Kia, Lenovo and Zuji.  Other former clients include Mcdonalds, Volkswagon, Mitsubishi, Vodafone, Dominos, MTV, Channel 7, Skoda, Panadol, Mercedes Benz and many more.  He has voice matched Jim Sturgess in The Owl’s of Gahoole, Justin Timberlake in The Trolls Australian stage show, narrated many Australian and International long form television shows such as World Deadliest Animals and Coastwatch Oz, and voiced numerous audiobooks.  He has consistently worked in the Voice Over Industry since graduating from NIDA, after beginning in the industry at 11 years old under the guidance of former Creative Head of Australia Radio Network, Shaun Faye.  He has never passed on any of the knowledge he has garnered from his many years experience as a working Voice Over Artists. Until now.

    TERMS & CONDITIONS: Please make 100% sure you are available for the course BEFORE agreeing to these terms and conditions. Once you have agreed by ticking the above box YOU ARE FULLY LIABLE TO PAY FOR THE COURSE IN FULL REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY CLASSES ARE ATTENDED. If you are not accepted onto the course, you will not held be liable to pay. Confirmation of acceptance onto a course will be emailed to you directly with an invoice. Upon receipt of the invoice you hereby agree to pay the full amount and by no later than the due date stated on the invoice. If you have opted for the direct debit payment system, you agree to return the emailed Direct Debit Request (DDR) Form within two days of receipt with the correct banking information and agree to have the appropriate funds available at all times, as per the payment schedule. If for some reason the DDR Form isn't filled out, at any stage before or after a course, you will still be required to pay the course amount in full. If for any reason you have not received the DDR Form, it is your responsibility to pay for the course and notify the studio. Please note that prior to payment we cannot guarantee your place on any course. CANCELLATIONS MADE BY YOU: If for whatever reason you wish to cancel your place on a course, you must notify us via email within five (5) business days before the start of the first class. A REFUND WILL BE ISSUED ONLY IF YOUR PLACE CAN BE FILLED. Often at this stage it can be difficult to find a suitable replacement, however we’ll do our best to facilitate the changes, if at all possible. If a refund is approved it will incur an administration charge of $75. Any cancellations requested after the five (5) days cut off are non-refundable however may be transferred as a credit, at the discretion of the The HubStudio, and are not guaranteed. IF WE MAKE CANCELLATIONS: Rarely we have to move a class due to unforeseen circumstances such as teachers sickness or unavailability. In these circumstance we will do our best to find a new time to accomodate everyone. We do not offer refunds for single class movements. If a whole class series is moved you will be entitled to a credit note for the next series or a full refund if you can’t attend the new dates.
