Course Overview

We are thrilled to be able to welcome back Angus McLaren, (star of Packed To The Rafters, and regular on Home & Away, Neighbours, Doctor Doctor, and for 2019 Bloom, The Naked Wanderer, The Merger & Hotel Mumbai) for this fantastic eight-week screen test workshop. Joining him to teach this course is stage and screen actor, writer and teacher; Anneliese Apps (Ride Like A Girl, Home And Away, Average Joe) who has worked closely with Angus and is in tune to Angus’s work.

Great film auditioning is the absolute engine room to success in the acting business. It’s therefore imperative you have a high-level of craft skill; that not only is the audition of a high standard, but that you yourself mentally know how to prepare into and out of the process. This course, through expert direction and insight, will give you the platform to repeatedly practice the audition process, so you are trained ready to succeed in the room. 

This course is all about practice meeting opportunity – plain and simple

Each week for eight weeks, you will receive a new screen test to put down with the group under the expert guidance of Angus and/or Anneliese. You will study the craft of auditioning defining what is great acting, you will look at winning self tests, talk about trending auditions and opportunities and work together to understand your unique talents and how to bring that to the screen. You will also look at mental mindset techniques and how to mentally prepare yourself into and out of the audition process so you stay positive and motivated.

From the previous series’ we have run at the Hub, this course is the one that had the biggest results. We saw many emerging actors through this program become mainstays on Australian screens. If you are serious about breaking, through then this series is a fantastic way to do it! 

Course Outline

Over eight weeks you will; 

  • Receive a new self test scene each week.
  • Experiment with accent / character.
  • Study the principals of great screen testing.
  • Understand your natural talents & type/s.
  • Learn mental mindset tools and techniques to prepare into and out of the audition process.
  • Learn a habitual and reliable approach to screen testing.

How To Pay & Instalment Option: The easiest way to pay is by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) using the bank details on the invoice (please quote the invoice number in the transfer information), or by simply clicking the ‘pay online’ link also on the invoice (bank fees apply). You will be email an invoice upon acceptance into the program. Payment is due no later than the due date stated on the invoice, however if you would like to pay in instalments please call or email the office to arrange the dates and amounts you will pay. Please note full payment of the course is due by the time the course finishes. You can start payment instalments at anytime upon receipt of the invoice.

About Angus McLaren

Angus McLaren has worked consistently as an actor and performer since the age of 12. He is perhaps best known for his role as Nathan Rafter on Seven Network’s hit show ​Packed to the Rafters f​ rom 2008 – 2013 and earlier as Lewis McCartney in ​H20: Just Add Water​. Angus has also appeared in some of Australia’s most popular television programs such as ​Neighbours​, Blue Heelers, All Saints​, as well as a lead role in the popular ABC program ​Silver Sun​.

In 2014 Angus was accepted into The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) to fulfil a desire to expand his knowledge, range, and experience. Finding his time at the Academy invaluable, he played the title role in William Shakespeare’s ​Coriolanus ​which toured to the Hydra Festival in Greece and a lead role in ​Tender Napalm​, touring to Singapore.

In his final year at WAAPA, Angus won the Channel Nine Best Actor Award at the WA Screen Academy Awards for his role in the short film ​Quartermaine​.

Upon graduating he joined the cast of Channel Nine’s popular series ​Doctor Doctor ​as Dr. Toke opposite Roger Corser; played the role of Pat in the web-series ​600 Bottles of Wine (BBC and Channel 10)​, Lance Salisbury in ​Home and Away (Ch 7),​ Sam in the WA set short film ​Crumbs and guests roles in the series Bloom (Stan) and the mockumentary comedy series ​These New South Whales (Comedy Central)

Angus also wrote his debut one-man show titled ​Mr. X – DEDTALKS ​and performed it at various venues including The Hills Are Alive Music and Comedy Festival in Victoria.

Angus will next be seen in the highly anticipated feature film, ​Hotel Mumbai ​alongside Dev Patel and Armie Hammer, the Aussie comedy, ​The Merger w​ith Kate Mulvany and John Howard, and the lead role of Jake in the romantic comedy film ​The Naked Wanderer ​alongside screen legend, John Cleese (Monty Python, Faulty Towers).
