American Accent Master Class 

A six week American Accent Master Class for Working Professional Actors 

Teacher: Linda Nicholls-Gidley

The HubStudio is very pleased to have the amazing Linda Nicholls-Gidley return to the HubStudio for 2018. Linda is one of the country’s best and most experienced dialect coaches. This practical eight week voice series will help you master a General American accent for the stage and film, directly upskilling you for your next audition or role.

A maximum of 12 students will work with Linda in this intensive and is designed to enhance and develop your embodiment of the Generic American Dialect. Participants should have a good understanding of dialect work.

Learn the default placement of the dialect, using a variety of methods you will explore the muscular setting needed to create an embodied Generic American Dialect. Learn a system that allows you to identify sound changes and problem areas with ease and assists with sound substitution. You will revise and expand your phonetic knowledge. Furthermore, you will learn how resonance can assist you to create character detail and give you access to different styles of Generic American. These skills will then be applied to monologues and scenes.

Linda is a voice and dialect coach with over 15 year’s experience, teaching across many of the nation’s drama schools in addition to having a strong corporate training profile, including presentation skills for Channel 9, 10, the ABC, SBS and Fairfax Digital. Linda has just been appointed dialect coach for ‘Mary – The Making of a Princess’, the story of Mary Donaldson and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, which begins shooting mid-July. Recent productions include: Legends – Australian Tour, Dirty Dancing – The Musical and The Rocky Horror Show 2015 for Gordon Frost; The House of Ramon Iglesia for Mophead; Deathtrap and Constellations for Darlinghurst Theatre Company, Stop Kiss at ATYP, The God of Hell at the Old Fitz, On the Shore of the Wide World at Griffin, The Rocky Horror Show Australian Tour 2014 for Gordon Frost, the World Tour of Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon – Arena Spectacular, the Australian Tour of Annie – The Musical, starring Anthony Warlow, the Sydney and Brisbane productions of 4000 Miles for Catnip/MopHead, Pantsguys’ award winning production of Punk Rock, and for Opera Australia The Merry Widow. She is a current member of the fulltime staff at NIDA where she has coached productions including Vale, Not Who I Was, A Dream Play, The Wolf in the River, The Light in the Piazza, Choreography, In The Blood, The False Servant, Osama the Hero, A Lie of The Mind, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Rookery Nook, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot and The Threesome.

If accepted we shall send out an application form with all the course information. Notification for acceptance will be made no later than one week before course commencement.

If offered your place will only be held once payment is received in full. Failure to do so will forfeit your place on the course.

  • If accepted onto the series you will be required to pay via one of the above options, please choose one from the following options.
    TERMS & CONDITIONS: Please make 100% sure you are available for the course BEFORE agreeing to these terms and conditions. Once you have agreed by ticking the above box YOU ARE FULLY LIABLE TO PAY FOR THE COURSE IN FULL REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY CLASSES ARE ATTENDED. If you are not accepted onto the course, you will not held be liable to pay. Confirmation of acceptance onto a course will be emailed to you directly with an invoice. Upon receipt of the invoice you hereby agree to pay the full amount and by no later than the due date stated on the invoice. If you have opted for the direct debit payment system, you agree to return the emailed Direct Debit Request (DDR) Form within two days of receipt with the correct banking information and agree to have the appropriate funds available at all times, as per the payment schedule. If for some reason the DDR Form isn't filled out, at any stage before or after a course, you will still be required to pay the course amount in full. If for any reason you have not received the DDR Form, it is your responsibility to pay for the course and notify the studio. Please note that prior to payment we cannot guarantee your place on any course. CANCELLATIONS MADE BY YOU: If for whatever reason you wish to cancel your place on a course, you must notify us via email within five (5) business days before the start of the first class. A REFUND WILL BE ISSUED ONLY IF YOUR PLACE CAN BE FILLED. Often at this stage it can be difficult to find a suitable replacement, however we’ll do our best to facilitate the changes, if at all possible. If a refund is approved it will incur an administration charge of $75. Any cancellations requested after the five (5) days cut off are non-refundable however may be transferred as a credit, at the discretion of the The HubStudio, and are not guaranteed. IF WE MAKE CANCELLATIONS: Rarely we have to move a class due to unforeseen circumstances such as teachers sickness or unavailability. In these circumstance we will do our best to find a new time to accomodate everyone. We do not offer refunds for single class movements. If a whole class series is moved you will be entitled to a credit note for the next series or a full refund if you can’t attend the new dates.
