Course Overview

Great acting starts with physical life. It is your body which gives your work authenticity. The Alexander Technique empowers you and grounds your work by identifying and removing excessive and unwanted postural and movement habits which limit your performance.

Ease and freedom open your instrument (body) allowing optimal breath and resonance in your voice. It also enables easy access to your characters-their spontaneity, presence and emotions. As a performer, your connections to scene partners, lines and the audience are readily available.



Course Outline

This is a “hands-on” practical workshop which gives you a tool kit to take into your professional life.
In the morning you will work on material of your choice while you integrate the learned skills, while in the afternoon you will use these skills in order to take your craft to the next level. You will take the following appreciations away from the course:

  • That your body is your instrument & the key to your craft
  • Basic anatomy & physiology give ease & freedom to allow:
    ~ optimal breathing
    ~ resonance in the voice
    ~ grounding
    ~ easy access to your characters thru’ connection, spontaneity, emotional availability & presence.
  • Authenticity in voice, language & body allow you to act with sensitivity & full awareness. This enables a wider range of choices & responses.


Course Outcomes

By completing this course you will have:

  • An increased awareness & use of correct body maps.
  • An increased awareness of movement which comes from your joints.
  • The ability to identify & remove excessive & unwanted postural & movement habits which limit your performance.
  • A means to find easy access to characters through grounding, spontaneity, connection, stillness, presence and emotions.
  • The ability to ground your work, daily practice and Being in a Self Mastery of specific tools.

How To Pay & Instalment Option: The easiest way to pay is by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) using the bank details on the invoice (please quote the invoice number in the transfer information), or by simply clicking the ‘pay online’ link also on the invoice (bank fees apply). You will be email an invoice upon acceptance into the program. Payment is due no later than the due date stated on the invoice, however if you would like to pay in instalments please call or email the office to arrange the dates and amounts you will pay. Please note full payment of the course is due by the time the course finishes. You can start payment instalments at anytime upon receipt of the invoice.


About Barbara Robertson

Barbara has a wealth of experience in training, having a successful background in Secondary and Tertiary Education. She is one of Sydney’s Senior Alexander Technique Teachers, with 20 years experience. She has been running a successful Private and Corporate Practice in Double Bay for those years, during which time she has worked extensively with professional actors, musicians and singers. Barbara teaches at AIM-Dramatic Arts, Actors’ Centre Australia, Howard Fine Studio, Melbourne, and has taught on The Open Program at NIDA. Barbara is the Sydney Alexander Technique Teacher who has supported the International Acting Coaches during their Australian Master Classes:

1. Larry Moss, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015.

In 2016, 2017 as an auditor.

2. Howard Fine, 2013 in Sydney

2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 in both Sydney & Melbourne

3. David Coury, Vocal Coach, Los Angeles, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 in Melbourne.

4. Jean-Louis Roderique, Master Alexander Technique Teacher, Los Angeles,

2012, 2015 in Sydney; 2014 in Melbourne. 

She is continually working with Master Teachers of Acting and The Alexander Technique to ensure that her clients achieve the best results. These teachers include American Master Teachers Howard Fine, Larry Moss and Jean-Louis Rodrigue.
