Course Overview

The film audition technique and showreel workshop is a fully comprehensive and practical step through of the film audition process, culminating in an industry ready showreel scene that will be sent to both local Perth and Sydney based Casting Agencies.

Working each week to put down a screen test you can keep, (in the three main areas of commercials, TV and film), we will start from the start, with detailed information about the casting process, to mental preparation techniques and self care practices, to fundamental camera technique, improvisation techniques, text analysis and character development work and development and awareness of your own personal strengths and brand, culminating in an industry professional showreel that will be sent to the following casting agencies: McGregor Casting, Danni Long Casting, i4 Casting, Peta Einberg Casting, Renato Fabretti, Chicken n’ Chips Casting, Fountainhead Casting and more.

From the previous series’s we have run at the Hub, this course is the one that has had the biggest results. We saw many emerging actors through this program become mainstays on Australian screens. If you are serious about breaking through then this series is a fantastic way to do it. 


The Showreel Scene

The showreel scene will be one coupled (two actors) scene no longer than one minute thirty seconds in length as per industry standard. We will work with you and your partner to develop what will begin as a self devised scene, incorporating the learnings from the course. This will then be shot on location, and all on the same day. An editor will be assigned to cut your final scene, delivered to you after completion of the course and hosted on Vimeo for your use. A grouped series will then be sent to the casting agencies. Please understand due to the nature of the industry, we can make no guarantees as to the response from the agencies.

Course Outline

Over ten weeks you will; 

  • Shoot a minimum of four self tests in class
  • Self testing homework to be reviewed by class and the tutor with feedback
  • Experiment with accent / character 
  • Study the principals of great screen testing
  • Understand your natural talents & type/s
  • Learn mental mindset tools and techniques to prepare into and out of the audition process.
  • Learn a habitual and reliable approach to screen testing
  • Shoot an industry ready showreel.

Cost: $525.00 all inclusive (course and showreel scene, instalments available)

How To Pay & Instalment Option: The easiest way to pay is by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) using the bank details on the invoice (please quote the invoice number in the transfer information), or by simply clicking the ‘pay online’ link also on the invoice (bank fees apply). You will be email an invoice upon acceptance into the program. Payment is due no later than the due date stated on the invoice, however if you would like to pay in instalments please call or email the office to arrange the dates and amounts you will pay. Please note full payment of the course is due by the time the course finishes. You can start payment instalments at anytime upon receipt of the invoice.

About Oliver Wenn

Oliver is the founder and co-director of The HubStudio. Oliver originally studied as an actor at The National Institute Of Dramatic Arts in Sydney. Since graduation Oliver has been involved in theatre, film, corporate drama, training and producing. Recent credits include; I Met A Girl, Escape & Evasion, Tribunal for SBS, Home & Away, Top Of The Lake, The Secret Daughter, Peter Allen : Not The Boy Next Door, Rake, Power Games & Packed To The Rafters. 

Oliver is both an actor and business man, having produced a major funded Musical Risky Lunar Love, an award winning series of short films called The Bench,  verbatim play Motherlode and several other productions including two in development with leading production company Jungle Entertainment.

If you have opted for the direct debit payment system, you agree to return the emailed Direct Debit Request (DDR) Form within two days of receipt with the correct banking information and agree to have the appropriate funds available at all times, as per the payment schedule. If for some reason the DDR Form isn't filled out, at any stage before or after a course, you will still be required to pay the course amount in full. If for any reason you have not received the DDR Form, it is your responsibility to pay for the course and notify the studio. CANCELLATIONS MADE BY YOU: If for whatever reason you wish to cancel your place on a course, you must notify us via email within five (5) business days before the start of the first class. A REFUND WILL BE ISSUED ONLY IF YOUR PLACE CAN BE FILLED. Often at this stage it can be difficult to find a suitable replacement, however we’ll do our best to facilitate the changes, if at all possible. If a refund is approved it will incur an administration charge of $75. Any cancellations requested after the five (5) days cut off are non-refundable however may be transferred as a credit, at the discretion of the The HubStudio, and are not guaranteed. IF WE MAKE CANCELLATIONS: Rarely we have to move a class due to unforeseen circumstances such as teachers sickness or unavailability. In these circumstance we will do our best to find a new time to accomodate everyone. We do not offer refunds for single class movements. If a whole class series is moved you will be entitled to a credit note for the next series or a full refund if you can’t attend the new dates.
