Course Overview

Your voice is your calling card. As an actor you need to be present physically and vocally, to use your voice with freedom and flexibility. This practical six week voice series will improve the power and flexibility of your voice, opening the doors to a greater variety of characters your instrument has the skillset to play. Explore the power of resonance, experiment with vocal energy and develop your vocal presence. A maximum of 12 students will work with Linda in this intensive Masterclass.

Course Outline

The course consists of explorations of the following areas of voice work;

  • Breath – the powerhouse of voice work
  • Resonance – exploring vibration and tone
  • Vocal Energy – making yourself heard
  • Vocal Freedom – exploring vocal choices and habits
  • Presence – embodying your vocal training
  • Text Work – putting it all together

Course Outcomes

This series of workshops will assist you to develop your voice work and enourage you to explore vocal choices beyond the habitual.

  • Develop embodied voice work
  • Develop resonance and tone.
  • Extend your range.
  • Discover how to not only take direction but translate that direction into truth and further discovery in the work
  • Apply techniques to text work.

About Linda Nicholls-Gidley

Linda is a voice and dialect coach with over 15 year’s experience, teaching across many of the nation’s drama schools in addition to having a strong corporate training profile, including presentation skills for Channel 9, 10, the ABC, SBS and Fairfax Digital. Linda has just been appointed dialect coach for ‘Mary – The Making of a Princess’, the story of Mary Donaldson and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, which begins shooting mid-July. Recent productions include: Legends – Australian Tour, Dirty Dancing – The Musical and The Rocky Horror Show 2015 for Gordon Frost; The House of Ramon Iglesia for Mophead; Deathtrap and Constellations for Darlinghurst Theatre Company, Stop Kiss at ATYP, The God of Hell at the Old Fitz, On the Shore of the Wide World at Griffin, The Rocky Horror Show Australian Tour 2014 for Gordon Frost, the World Tour of Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon – Arena Spectacular, the Australian Tour of Annie – The Musical, starring Anthony Warlow, the Sydney and Brisbane productions of 4000 Miles for Catnip/MopHead, Pantsguys’ award winning production of Punk Rock, and for Opera Australia The Merry Widow. She is a current member of the fulltime staff at NIDA where she has coached productions including Vale, Not Who I Was, A Dream Play, The Wolf in the River, The Light in the Piazza, Choreography, In The Blood, The False Servant, Osama the Hero, A Lie of The Mind, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Rookery Nook, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot and The Threesome.
