Course Overview

This special six week series presents a fantastic opportunity to rehearse, produce, shoot and deliver a high quality Screen Test reel for agents, casting directors and other industry professionals. A high quality screen test reel is the calling card for the modern actor. Its imperative that your acting ability is as great as it can be and that you are presenting yourself to the industry at the highest possible standard. This series is a great way to systemise the processes, work with like minds and the incredible Michael Booth. Don’t leave your next big opportunity to chance, put your best foot forward. 

Please understand this course is going to create a Screen Test reel, and NOT a Showreel. A Screen Test reel is a short demo of your work for an agency and although just a professional as a Showreel is used for a different purpose. A Showreel is technically a cut of recently produced work where as a Screen Test is a demo shoot of any chosen useful material, in a single angle format, shot generally with a blue background. Its an excellent format for a quick representation of what and how you might be able to act in a real scenario.

Course Outline

Actors will workshop 2 scenes over 6 weeks under Michael’s direction.  2 sessions will be dedicated to bringing the scene to life and vibrancy, and the third will be devoted to the shoot, then this process repeated with a second scene. At the end of the course you will have two fantastic scenes for use on a screen test reel.

  • Scene each week prepared prior to class
  • Feedback and direction by Michael
  • Specific focus on audition technique & process, camera technique, script analysis

Course Outcomes

This series is the perfect opportunity for continued, practice and refinement, for both craft and keeping industry updated, keen and engaged.

  • Minimum of two professional screen test scenes

  • Understand how to use and maximise subtext for character

About Michael Booth

Michael Booth studied acting with the Atlantic Theatre Company in New York and with Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. He has worked extensively in Australian film and television, most notably as George on the first three seasons of Channel 7’s Packed To The Rafters and as Harry on Channel 10’s Wonderland.

In 2002 Michael co-founded the Group Theatre and directed productions in Sydney from 2002 to 2008 including Sexual Perversity in Chicago (Belvoir St), Balm in Gilead (Imperial Hotel), The Grey House (Old Fitz) and Our Country’s Good (Darlinghurst Theatre).     TERMS & CONDITIONS: Please make 100% sure you are available for the course BEFORE agreeing to these terms and conditions. Once you have agreed by ticking the above box YOU ARE FULLY LIABLE TO PAY FOR THE COURSE IN FULL REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY CLASSES ARE ATTENDED. If you are not accepted onto the course, you will not held be liable to pay. Confirmation of acceptance onto a course will be emailed to you directly with an invoice. Upon receipt of the invoice you hereby agree to pay the full amount and by no later than the due date stated on the invoice. If you have opted for the direct debit payment system, you agree to return the emailed Direct Debit Request (DDR) Form within two days of receipt with the correct banking information and agree to have the appropriate funds available at all times, as per the payment schedule. If for some reason the DDR Form isn't filled out, at any stage before or after a course, you will still be required to pay the course amount in full. If for any reason you have not received the DDR Form, it is your responsibility to pay for the course and notify the studio. Please note that prior to payment we cannot guarantee your place on any course. CANCELLATIONS MADE BY YOU: If for whatever reason you wish to cancel your place on a course, you must notify us via email within five (5) business days before the start of the first class. A REFUND WILL BE ISSUED ONLY IF YOUR PLACE CAN BE FILLED. Often at this stage it can be difficult to find a suitable replacement, however we’ll do our best to facilitate the changes, if at all possible. If a refund is approved it will incur an administration charge of $75. Any cancellations requested after the five (5) days cut off are non-refundable however may be transferred as a credit, at the discretion of the The HubStudio, and are not guaranteed. IF WE MAKE CANCELLATIONS: Rarely we have to move a class due to unforeseen circumstances such as teachers sickness or unavailability. In these circumstance we will do our best to find a new time to accomodate everyone. We do not offer refunds for single class movements. If a whole class series is moved you will be entitled to a credit note for the next series or a full refund if you can’t attend the new dates.
