Course Overview

We are thrilled to have accomplished actor Edan Lacey to the Hub for a special improv series. Edan has a huge amount of experience in improvisation, not only as an actor, but also as a founding member of Improv Theatre Sydney (ITS). This eight-week course will be improvisation for actors, not solely theatre sports. Improvisation for actors is all about creating the tools for listening, responding yielding and accepting ‘offers’ made by other actors in a scene. Edan’s series will introduce each actor to the fundamentals of great improvisation technique and how it relates to scripted acting work. This series is a seriously fun, engaging workshop that will give each participant significant skills to add to their repertoire for the development and execution of character, for both stage and film. 

Course Outline

Over the eight weeks each participant will work on various areas of improvisational technique in the following areas:

    • Imaginary Circumstances.
    • Accepting / Yielding.
    • Character development.
    • Impulse work.
    • Use of physical space to inform character & story.

Course Outcomes

Development & practice of craft lie at the core of the Masterclass:

    • An ability to take offers, accept and yield to stimulus.
    • Increased ability to react from impulse with character.
    • Greater awareness of working in a group.
    • Focus on character development techniques.
    • Create dynamic and engaging offer to other actors.
    • Ability to use improvisational techniques in scripted work.

How To Pay & Instalment Option: The easiest way to pay is by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) using the bank details on the invoice (please quote the invoice number in the transfer information), or by simply clicking the ‘pay online’ link also on the invoice (bank fees apply). You will be email an invoice upon acceptance into the program. Payment is due no later than the due date stated on the invoice, however if you would like to pay in instalments please call or email the office to arrange the dates and amounts you will pay. Please note full payment of the course is due by the time the course finishes. You can start payment instalments at anytime upon receipt of the invoice.

About Edan Lacey

Edan Lacey is an award winning actor, director and improviser and co-founder of Improv Theatre Sydney. He trained in Spolin Theatre Games at the New Actor’s Workshop in New York City, a school founded by legendary director Mike Nichols, George Morrison and improvisation pioneer Paul Sills. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney majoring in Psychology and Philosophy and is a graduate of the directing program at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).

He studied long form improvisation at The Upright Citizens Brigade and the People’s Improv Theatre in NYC and clown at Ecole Phillipe Gaulier, is the creator of two original web-series, and has written, performed and directed shows at The Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals, and ImprovOlympic in Chicago.

He was the winner of the 2013 ImproAustralia Theatresports Cranston Cup, and 2014 National Theatresports championships. Edan also teaches improvisation in the NIDA Open program.
